This Grade 10 unit teaches a self-taught learner to solve systems of two linear equations by elimination, including cases where one or both equations must be multiplied first to create opposite coefficients. The learner develops both the procedure and the reasoning behind it, learns to recognize one-solution/no-solution/infinitely-many-solutions cases algebraically, and uses elimination reliably in symbolic and word-problem contexts.
